May 18
The site manager has finally revealed to me that they are very excited about these hosta going in.  I'm just hoping that it looks as cool as I've envisioned this to be!  I wonder if she now appreciates the humor mentioned before.

The Garden Process

The Garden preparation had three stages.  1) the clean out, 2) the post-clean out, 3) planting stage,  These three stages were photographed, and posted below, to show the evolution of the garden process.

These first two pictures are from the south side of the garden space.  The bulbs in front will remain where they are (at least from what I've been told).

Photograph A: Single panel image of garden space.  Kinda looks like a jungle down there doesn't it!
Photograph B: Montage of same space

This third picture, from the north side, really shows just how poorly this 26 ft. / 79.25 dm. stretch of space has been kept up with over the 24 years of resident occupancy.

These next images shows the same gardening space AFTER the clean out. Note, if you can, that the space goes from masonry bricks at the very right (see montage above), to the lilacs to the right (nearly seen in Photograph A). And the width is really only about 6 in. / 15.24 cmIf you have good eyes you might also see the base of the primary garden/Garden A Photograph B as well.

During May 20 and 21 the trough, garden area that these hosta are going in was cleared, and the cottonwood and lilacs were also trimmed back.  Between all these factors the lighting has shifted noticeably to being more.  This can only help

[After planting]

May 5th
Hosta from HostaDirect have arrived; two varieties not three as I had hoped, but things happen.  I can't complain.  The hosta retrieval from the 4th was postponed until better weather.

Hosta will be arranged one mason brick to a plant. At the time of this writing there were 22 bricks counted.  This, in turn, says there will eventually be 22 Mouse Ears installed for this collection.

The Planting Process

Twenty some (+20) Mouse Ear Hosta were brought together.  Some with the help of my families nursery/greenhouse, some from my Mother, a few from my own garden, and some last ones from still other locations.

Notes to above table
  • ID is the unique number that I assign to my garden plants.  For this discussion the numbers also reflect how they are planted from left to right.
  • HostasDirect,  online purveyor of hosta
  • K&K: Kelley & Kelley Nursery and Landscaping, Long Lake, MN
  • tHF: the Hosta Farm, Coeburn, VA
  • Mom: those found from my mother's garden.
  • Me: those found from my own garden.
Duplicates and duplicate sources may be shown and are correct.
The hardest part of this process was waiting until all the orders were in place to determine the final arrangement of the plants.

The Final Diagram

The final diagram for this garden looks like this ...
